Hot-dip galvanised steel coil (GI) is made by passing a fully
hardened steel sheet, which has undergone a pickling and rolling
process, through a zinc pot, thereby coating the surface with a
zinc film. Due to the properties of zinc, it offers excellent
corrosion resistance, paintability and workability. Typically, the
process and specifications for hot-dip galvanised steel sheet and
galvanised steel coil are essentially the same.

Galvanised steel coils are thin steel sheets that are dipped into
molten zinc in order to attach a layer of zinc to the surface. This
is an effective method of corrosion protection that extends the
life of the metal material.
Classification of galvanised steel substrate
- Hot rolled galvanised steel sheet: hot rolled steel sheet with
pickled substrate.
- Cold rolled galvanised steel sheet: the substrate is cold rolled or
hardened steel sheet.
Classification of zinc spangle
- Large / Big zinc spangle (regular spangle): zinc spangle formed by free growth of zinc crystals in the normal
solidification process after hot dip plating of steel plates in
conditions where the zinc solution contains antimony or lead.
- Minimum zinc spangle : because of the control of the growth of zinc flower
crystallisation, so the surface grain structure is fine; because of
the surface uniformity, so the surface quality after painting is
excellent; paintability is better than conventional zinc flower.
- No zinc spangle (zero zinc spangle): because the growth of zinc particles is completely controlled
during the molten zinc fixing process, it is difficult to see zinc
spangles with the naked eye; because the surface is uniform, the
surface quality after painting is excellent.
- Skin passed zinc spangle: the molten zinc is cured and then smoothed to obtain an extremely
smooth surface; because the surface is smooth, the surface quality
after painting is excellent.
